With his can-do attitude and approachable manner, James makes sure client discussions are both productive and enjoyable! And of course, he always makes time to be a fun-loving dad to his two young children.
Duncan is an experienced, well-respected educationalist with a successful track-record of leadership and governance in the independent sector. In recent years, Duncan has established an outstanding reputation as a discerning strategic consultant as Chief Strategy Officer for MTM and has assisted a diverse range of businesses and schools about their potential for positive change. Current market trends are increasingly seeing Duncan chosen to act as a respected facilitator in Merger & Acquisition discussions as well as a trusted project manager for strategic evolution on behalf of senior leaders and governors; using the MTM data, and his vast experience of the sector, he can offer credible suggestions as to how a school’s business model can be successfully diversified.
Duncan espouses that the well-publicised threats to the independent sector can best be addressed by adopting creative and enterprising solutions, including sourcing additional revenue streams to supplement fee income, whilst maintaining a pragmatic approach to costs and ensuring that each institution’s value proposition is articulated effectively; consequently, he advocates that although the current climate is an exacting one, it can also be considered as a great opportunity if approached with ambition and care in equal measure. In recent months, Duncan has featured in The Telegraph, LBC and BBC Radio 4 as a voice of authority on the sector and its challenges in light of the Labour manifesto, including the VAT debate. He is an articulate and charismatic ambassador for independent schools and all related stakeholders – not least the children, who, he advocates passionately, should be at the forefront of all educational policy.

At MTM Consulting, Emily brings her passion for equipping Marketing and Admissions teams in education with the tools they need to succeed. She’s always up for a challenge and loves thinking outside the box, but she knows that great creative campaigns have to be backed up by evidence-based decision-making.
When she’s not working, Emily loves to explore everything that the Westcountry has to offer with her young family from her home base in Bristol. She’s particularly drawn to the beach, no matter the weather – a nod to her Cornish roots.
In her role at MTM, Morag helps schools make the most of market research and analytics, especially when it comes to boosting recruitment and retention. She has spent the last few years working in the Independent School sector, where she helped increase social engagement, raise brand awareness, and drive more enquiries.
Meet Danny, who leads MTM’s research team and is a true data enthusiast. With a strong background in marine biology, Danny has spent years analysing information and statistics to draw fact-based conclusions. He is particularly passionate about using his skills to support the education sector.
But what really sets Danny apart is his passion for the education sector and his desire to help schools succeed. With a keen eye for detail, Danny offers his clients a deep dive into their current position and provides actionable recommendations for future success.
When he’s not working, Danny enjoys spending quality time with his young family. He is a certified PADI Divemaster, a volunteer-run leader at his local running club, and an enthusiastic volleyball player.
As a chemistry graduate, Alison brings a wealth of experience in data analysis, honed through various research projects. Alison understands the significance of maintaining an open mind, paying meticulous attention to detail, and deriving conclusions firmly supported by data.
In her role as a data analyst at MTM Consulting, Alison is enthusiastic about applying her analytical skills to contribute meaningfully to the education sector. Her passion for education began during her time as a teaching assistant at both her dance school and a local primary school, and she particularly enjoyed the outreach project completed while at university.
Outside of work, Alison finds joy in dancing and actively participates in Ballroom and Latin dance competitions. She loves performing and is excited to start working on the production team for Handsworth Gangshow!
Cath’s career path is as unique as it is impressive. With a degree in Archaeology, she first honed her analytical and research skills before moving into the world of marketing and completing her Masters.
She began her journey at Bank of Scotland before moving on to Somerfield, further expanding her expertise in marketing and communications. Most recently, Cath served as the Marketing Assistant at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital, an independent school in Bristol. There, she was instrumental in elevating the school’s profile and helping to manage comprehensive marketing campaigns. Cath’s diverse experience, strategic mindset, and passion for storytelling make her a valuable asset to the MTM team, where she brings a fresh perspective, extreme organisation and a wealth of knowledge to every project she undertakes.
Kate brings over 20 years of qualitative research experience to the table, with a wealth of knowledge in the education sector. She’s conducted research for some big names, including the Wellcome Trust, Department for Education, AQR, The Student Room, and NUS.
Kate’s expertise spans a wide range of subject areas in education and learning. She has also conducted communication reviews, including prospectuses, course content, websites, and research publications.
When it comes to research, Kate’s a pro at all kinds of qualitative methodologies, from face-to-face and online groups to workshops, depths (that’s individual, paired, triads, intercepts, accompanied visits, and observations). She’s a whiz at concept testing and attitudinal studies, and she’s got a real talent for understanding decision-making processes and customer journeys.
When she’s not busy juggling work and her children’s clubs, Kate spends as much time as possible with her family.
